How to get qualified for breaking at Paris 2024?
Athletes will have three exciting opportunities to secure their spots for breaking’s debut at Paris 2024:
- 2023 World Championship
- Continental Games/Championships
- Olympic qualifier series.
These crucial competitions will serve as the battlegrounds where the world’s most talented B-Boys and B-Girls will showcase their skills and vie for their chance to make history on the Olympic stage.
From the global stage of the World Championship to the regional showdowns of the Continental Games/Championships and the intense battles of the Olympic qualifier series, each event will offer its own unique challenges and opportunities for athletes to shine and earn their tickets to Paris 2024.
2023 World Championship
The very first two athletes (one boy and one girl) to earn their spots in Olympic breaking will be crowned champions at the WDSF 2023 World Championship happening in Belgium on September 23-24, 2023.
These winners will pave the way as the first representatives in this thrilling new Olympic event, showcasing their incredible skills on the global stage in Belgium.
Continental Games/Continental Championships
A total of 10 athletes (five boys and five girls) will secure their spots from the Continental Games or Championships held in their respective regions. Following a fair distribution system that respects the maximum number of athletes per National Olympic Committee (NOC), the top-placed B-Boy and B-Girl from each continent will earn their tickets to Paris 2024.
Here’s a breakdown of the Continental Games/Championships where these talented breakers will battle for their chance to shine:
- Africa: The date and location for the African Continental Games or Championships are yet to be determined, but rest assured, the top breakers from this region will be showcasing their skills to secure their spots for Paris 2024.
- Europe: From June 21st to July 2nd, 2023, the Europe Continental Qualifier will be held, where the highest-ranking B-Boy and B-Girl will earn their quotas for the Olympics.
- Asia: From September 23rd to October 8th, 2023, the Asian Games in the People’s Republic of China will host the Asian qualifier, determining which B-Boy and B-Girl will represent the continent at Paris 2024.
- Americas: Taking place from October 20th to November 5th, 2023, in Chile, the Panamerican Games will serve as the stage for the Americas qualifier, where the top breakers will secure their spots for the Olympic Games.

It’s important to note two exceptions that could affect the allocation of quota spots for Olympic breaking:
- Continental Games/Championships winners already secured spots through the World Championship: the slot will then be passed on to the next highest-ranking eligible athlete who hasn’t yet qualified from the same Continental Games/Championship.
- A continent lacks a Continental Qualifier: or if there are no medal events for breaking in the Continental Games/Championships, the athlete with the highest placement at the WDSF Continental Breaking Championship 2023 for that specific continent will be granted a ticket to Paris 2024.
Olympic Qualifiers Series (OQS)
Between the months of March and June 2024, the highly anticipated Olympic Qualifiers Series (OQS) will unfold, marking the final stage of qualification for Paris 2024. While the exact location is still awaiting confirmation, one thing is certain: this will be the last chance for B-Boys and B-Girls who haven’t yet secured their spots to punch their tickets to the Olympics.
The OQS will be the ultimate battleground where athletes will vie for the remaining 14 quotas up for grabs, with seven slots available for each gender.
